Meet With a FlexGE Advisor
Before heading out on your mission, make time to speak with your academic advisor! FlexGE students who meet with an advisor better understand how their mission may affect enrollment and are more prepared to return to their studies after serving. A short conversation now can help you avoid delays later and make the most of your time in FlexGE.
Pay Outstanding Charges
Be sure to pay any remaining charges on your student account before you leave. Unpaid charges may end up in collections after 90 days—even while you are on a mission. You can make payments in My Financial Center

Set Up Guest Access
We recommend you grant guest access to a parent or guardian so they can act on your behalf while you are gone. As you prepare to return from your mission, they will be able to help with registration and other tasks if you are unable to do so.

Sell Your Housing Contract
If you plan on leaving for your mission before your rental contract ends, arrange with your landlord to either end your contract or sell it to another student. Otherwise, you will be financially responsible for the contract through the end of the rental period.
Terminate Student Health Plan Coverage
If you are enrolled in the BYU Student Health Plan, you can terminate your coverage by emailing the Health Plan Office at healthplan@byu.edu. Explain in your message that you are a FlexGE student and include a copy of your mission call so the office can verify the date you begin. If you do not terminate your coverage, you will continue to be charged until the end of the current academic year (August).
