BYU FlexGE students can now co-enroll in a degree program with Ensign College on their FlexGE application.  They can then take both FlexGE and Ensign College classes to complete their Ensign College degree and apply for federal financial aid for qualifying FlexGE and Ensign College classes. See the news release here.

How Does it Work?

1. Select an Ensign College degree program on your FlexGE application. 2. Apply for federal financial aid at Ensign College. 3. Register for qualifying classes with BYU FlexGE and/or Ensign College. 4. Receive federal aid money (if you qualify). 5. Earn your degree from Ensign College. 6. Transfer to BYU or another university to complete a bachelor's degree.

Ensign College offers a variety of degree programs.  See the complete listing on their website.  

Are all BYU classes eligible for federal financial aid?

Only those BYU classes that are equivalent to classes required by your Ensign College degree program are eligible for aid.  You can review which BYU courses may be eligible for aid at this link.  

Can I still take BYU FlexGE classes that are not eligible for federal financial aid?

Yes! However, you will not receive aid for these classes.

How do I know which BYU FlexGE classes are eligible for federal financial aid?

Use the transfer guide on the Ensign College website to find which BYU classes are eligible for federal aid.  Look for BYU classes that are equivalent to Ensign College classes required for your Ensign College degree.  

Can I get financial aid for classes I am taking now or those I have already completed?

Financial aid is only available for semesters in which you are co-enrolled in BYU FlexGE and Ensign College.

Should I complete my Ensign College associate degree if I plan on transferring to BYU or another university?

You should not sign up for an Ensign College degree program unless you intend to complete it. However, we understand that sometimes plans change.  Completing an associate degree before transferring usually means all or nearly all general education requirements at your new school will be waived.  Completing an applied associate degree will not waive GE requirements at your new school, but the individual courses may satisfy some major requirements.
